Our Handbook

It is the intent of the director and teachers in the program to help you in your pursuit of music education for your child in a positive and nurturing manner. Our purpose is four-fold:

       1.  To enrich the character of each student by the Suzuki method of education.

       2.  To instill a love of classical music as a basis for learning in each child and his/her family.

       3.  To broaden the musical horizons of students and their families.

       4.  To provide an environment that will stimulate students to master the technique of a musical instrument.

This handbook is for your information and benefit in clarifiying standards and policies necessary to keep the school functioning in an organized manner. Please read and keep it for future reference.

Lesson Attendance

       1.  Absences from private lessons will not be made up. Teachers will provide each family with a current schedule to encourage trading lesson times with another student.

       2.  Absences from group lessons are not made up.

       3.  If the teacher is absent, the lesson will be made up.

Group Class Attendance

Group classes are provided for all instruments on a weekly basis. It is for practicing skills together and polishing repertoire. Any student with an ongoing conflict with group class cannot remain in the program. Seasonal conflicts with group class will be dealt with on an individual basis with the director. Only students from the SSE program can take part in group classes.

No refund of tuition shall be made after the beginning of the term, except for the discontinuation of the program for the rest of the term due to prolonged illness or moving of the family to another area.  Notice of termination of lessons shall be given no less than two weeks in advance.

Studio Guidelines

Turn off cell phones and pagers BEFORE entering the studio. Your child needs your undivided attention.

When your lesson is at the Music House, pull around the circle drive as far as possible when parking. You may use the church lot across Highland Ave. to avoid congestion.

Use only the paved driveway in muddy or icy conditions. Please use common courtesy about food, drink and muddy feet. Treat the Music House with respect.

Remember to check your family file as this is our “mail system”.

Please pay for purchased items in a timely manner. After three weeks of non-payment, a 10% charge will be added to your bill.

SSE does not send tuition bills. Tuition amounts and due dates are listed on the insert of your registration sheets. Signs are also posted two weeks prior to due dates.

Book Completions

After finishing a volume of Suzuki literature, each student may play the last piece in the volume and receive an award for doing so. The student must be on the third piece in the next volume in order to schedule the solo. The solo may be done at repertoire class or another appropriate program (solo recital, school class, church). The private teacher and director will determine the students’ readiness for playing. Book 4 and above students will have a $20.00 accompanist fee.
